Jong-nam murder: Be professional, Zahid tells North Korean officials

KUALA LUMPUR - Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has told North Korean officials doubting the cause of death of Kim Jong-nam to be professional in their actions.

He said those who doubted the cause of death and what killed the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jung-un can always refer the matter to the police and the Health Ministry.

"The authorities have completed the autopsy and forensics and chemistry test. Everything has been done. The North Koreans should be professional and respect the Malaysian Government," Dr Ahmad Zahid told reporters at a hotel here to launch the Felda Youth Council annual general meeting Friday.

He was asked to comment on North Korea's former deputy ambassador to the United Nations who had insisted that its citizen "Kim Chol" died of a heart attack and was not poisoned.

"We have information that Kim Chol suffered from heart disease and was not fit to travel without his medication," Ri Tong-il  told a press conference at the North Korean embassy here on Thursday.

Ri, who was part of a delegation which arrived on Tuesday, identified the deceased as Kim Chol and not Jong-nam.

He also cited the post-mortem examination conducted by Malaysian health authorities, claiming that it showed Jong-nam died of a heart attack.

Bernama reported that Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar had dismissed claims by North Korea that Kim Chol probably died of a heart attack.

Khalid said Malaysian experts had already confirmed that Kim Chol died on Feb 13 after two women smeared his face with their hands laced with poison at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2), which was later confirmed to be the deadly VX nerve agent.

Kim Chol was the name on the passport used by Jong-nam when he was scheduled to leave for Macau before he was murdered.
